Troubleshooting Browser Issues Due to Recent Window Updates
Troubleshooting Browser Issues Due to Recent Window Updates
Introduction We have recently identified that the few KB patches (KB5044091, KB5044273, KB5045998) from Microsoft updates have caused issues with launching Chrome or Edge. Below are the steps that can help you in troubleshooting them. But we recommend doing these changes by taking a proper backup and in supervision of our support agents. You can raise a support ticket or ping us over chat support for scheduling a session with them.
Recommended First Step: Install Windows Patch KB5045594
Microsoft released an update (KB5045594) on October 22nd to fix issues caused by previous updates (KB5044091, KB5044273, KB5045998), including browser problems. We recommend installing KB5045594 on the affected machine. To install the update, follow the instructions on Microsoft's support page: How to Get the Latest Windows Update
Recommended Second Step: Run Browser as a Different User
As a quick workaround, try running the browser or Leapwork Studio as a different user. To do this, Shift+Right-click on the Leapwork Studio shortcut or .exe file, select "Run as a different user," and log in with the same credentials you use for the system (this can be a non-admin account).
If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
Issue 1: Browser Not Launching
The inability to launch the browser may be related to specific Windows 10 patches from the October updates (KB5044091, KB5044273, and KB5045998). One possible resolution is to uninstall these patches or consider using a different version of Windows.
Resolution Steps:
Remove Recent Windows Patches:
If the browser doesn’t launch, try uninstalling the following Windows updates:
- KB5044091
- KB5044273
- KB5045998

Reinstall Leapwork Studio:
If the above step doesn’t work, reinstall Leapwork Studio.
Check Browser Version:
Ensure your browser is up to date. If it’s not compatible, update it.
Issue 2: Browser Launches, But Redirection Does Not Work
This issue is often related to policy settings in the Windows registry. Deleting the relevant policy key may resolve the problem.
Steps for Resolving Policy Issues:
For Edge:
- Delete or Modify Registry Key:
- Navigate to the registry key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
- Look for the entry named "DeveloperToolsAvailability." You can either delete this entry or set its value to 0 or 1: DeveloperToolsAvailability"=dword:00000001
For Chrome:
- Delete or Modify Registry Key:
- Navigate to the registry key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome
- Look for the "DeveloperToolsAvailability" entry. Delete it or set its value to 0 or 1: DeveloperToolsAvailability"=dword:00000001
Recommendations for Users:
It is advisable to refrain from installing the latest Windows updates, as these issues seem linked to them rather than Leapwork itself.
