How to work with extensions

A Start Web Browser building block has the feature of using chrome/edge extension; the advantages of extension are listed below:

• The new Extensions offer more robust and faster execution.
• They allow the user to interact with Chrome and Edge profiles more naturally.
• In addition, users can also interact with Chrome, which has been opened by the user previously. In other words, there is no longer need to initiate the browser from the Leapwork Platform. However, this feature requires the manual installation of the extensions, if not doing completely new installation.

Installation:

Run the installer of the latest version of Leapwork Platform. The installer will automatically update the extension to the latest version.

To install the extension manually on the browsers, please refer to the below steps for the respective browser;

Chrome

1. Go to chrome://extensions/ in your browser.
2. Turn on Developer mode in the top right corner.
3. Click on the “Load unpacked” button in the top left corner.
4. Navigate to the following path C:\ProgramData\Leapwork\Extensions\ChromeExtension.
5. Select the “extension” folder and press the “Select folder” button.
6. The extension should be added now and appear next to other extensions.

Edge:

1. Go to edge://extensions/ in your browser.
2. Press on the burger menu on the left side and activate Developer mode.
3. Click on the “Container” icon (titled “Load unpacked”).
4. Navigate to the following path C:\ProgramData\Leapwork\Extensions\EdgeExtension.
5. Select the “extension” folder and press the “Select folder” button.
6. The extension should be added now and appear next to other extensions.
7. The extension is ready to use now.

The browsers are now to utilize the extension feature via Leapwork.

How to use profiles in Chrome and Edge

The new extensions allow the user to work with the Chrome and Edge profiles more naturally. In practice, this means that the user can choose to work with three profile options.

1. Last used (default) - This option refers to the user profile that was last active in the browser. This also means that all cookies, cached documents, and logged-in user sessions will be available in the automation.
2. Temporary - This option creates a temporary user profile with a clear history. This can be used to start the browser in a clean session imitating users visiting web pages for the first time.
3. Existing - This option uses a specific user profile that already exists in the browser with access to all cookies, cached documents, and logged-in user sessions for that profile.
