How to fix the Chrome 136 error: “No Browser Window is Open” in Leapwork
Introduction
If you're using Google Chrome version 136 with Leapwork and facing the error “No browser window is open", this article will help you resolve the issue. Sometimes when you run a test in Leapwork using Chrome, the browser opens, but the test doesn't move forward. This usually happens when you're using an existing Chrome user profile.
The problem is with how ChromeDriver version 136 talks to Chrome. If that Chrome profile is already being used — maybe it has open tabs, background processes running, or extensions installed — it can block ChromeDriver from taking control. As a result, Leapwork can’t run the test properly because it can't fully control the browser.
The Solution:
The suggested approach is to create a copy of your existing Chrome profile and use this new profile path in Leapwork. This avoids the interference caused by active or previously used Chrome sessions.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow the steps below to apply the solution:
Close all Chrome instances
- Ensure no Chrome windows are open before proceeding.
Copy your existing Chrome profile
- Open PowerShell ISE (search for it in the Start Menu).
- Run the following command to copy your default Chrome profile to a new location:
_Copy-Item "$_env:LOCALAPPDATA\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default" "C:\default_profile" -Recurse -Force - Wait for 1–2 minutes until the process is complete.
Update Leapwork browser settings
- Open Leapwork Studio.
- Navigate to the Chrome browser settings.
- Enable the “Use Existing Profile” option.
- Enter the following path:C:\default_profile\Default
By using a copied Chrome profile, you can successfully fix the issue and continue executing your browser flows in Leapwork without interruption.
