Change in Microsoft EdgeDriver Download URL and Temporary Configuration Override (Studio & Remote Agents)
Change in Microsoft EdgeDriver Download URL and Temporary Configuration Override (Studio & Remote Agents)
Overview
Microsoft has updated the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) used for downloading Microsoft EdgeDriver. This change impacts environments where Selenium is used to automatically download the EdgeDriver binary.
Old URL: https://msedgedriver.azureedge.net
New URL: https://msedgedriver.microsoft.com
Selenium’s default EdgeDriver download source has not yet been updated to reflect this change. As a result, environments using Selenium 4.34 and earlier may experience issues such as Edge sessions failing to start (for example, errors like “No Browser Window for Edge”) when attempting to fetch the driver from the outdated endpoint.
Temporary Workaround
Until Selenium updates its default configuration, you can manually override the EdgeDriver download URL.
- Navigate to the following path:
C:\Users\{UserName}\.cache\selenium\se-config.toml
Create the file if it doesn’t exist or edit it if it does.
Add the following configuration line:
msedgedriver-mirror-url = "https://msedgedriver.microsoft.com"
- Save the file and rerun your flow in Leapwork Studio or on the Leapwork Remote Agent.
Ensure the configuration file exists under the same Windows user context that runs the Studio or Agent.
Expected Outcome
Selenium will use the new Microsoft mirror URL provided in the configuration file and successfully download the EdgeDriver binary to the cache directory.
Status / Permanent Fix
The Selenium team is in the process of updating the default EdgeDriver mirror to the new Microsoft endpoint. Until this upstream change is released, the manual configuration override described above remains the recommended approach. Leapwork will include the official Selenium fix in a future release once it becomes available, removing the need for this manual configuration.
Note:
For Remote Agents, {UserName} refers to the Windows login username under which the Agent service is executed.
msedgedriver-mirror-url = "https://msedgedriver.microsoft.com"
